Our wallet prints measure 2.375″ × 3.375″, printed eight to a sheet with rounded, die-cut corners, and ordered in multiples of eight (one sheet = eight prints of the same image). Graduation Season Wallets

This is our busiest wallet stretch of the year, running from mid-April through early June as high school seniors and college graduates cross the stage. Wallets are one of the most practical things you can tuck into a graduation announcement — the card gets opened, read, and often recycled, but the wallet print gets kept. It ends up in a purse, a frame, a scrapbook, sometimes all three.

Order timing matters more than people expect. Announcements typically go out two to four weeks before commencement, so I’d suggest getting your graduation photo prints ordered at least that far ahead — sooner if you are also waiting on senior pictures from a photographer, since that file has to land in your hands before it can land in mine. A lot of families order two or three sheets per graduate: one favorite senior portrait for most of the list, and a different candid or cap-and-gown shot for a smaller group of close friends, so the gift feels a little more personal without reprinting everything from scratch.

As a rule of thumb, one sheet (eight prints) comfortably covers a close circle — grandparents on both sides, a couple of aunts and uncles, a best friend or two. Two sheets stretches to extended family, teachers, and coaches. For a graduate with a long list of relatives and family friends, three or four sheets is common.

Wedding Season Keepsakes

Our second big wallet season runs May through August, and it centers on two uses. The first is wedding thank-you cards: a favorite portrait from the day, printed wallet-size and tucked into the note, gives guests something to actually keep instead of a card that gets read once and set aside. The second is wallet prints as a wedding favor at the reception itself — a small stack set out for guests, or included in a table favor, so everyone leaves with a piece of the day.

Quantity comes down to guest count more than anything. If you are sending thank-you cards to 40–50 households, figure five to seven sheets depending on how many households get one each versus one per couple. For favors distributed per guest rather than per household, the count climbs quickly — do the math against your final headcount before you order, and round up rather than down. Timing-wise, most couples order thank-you wallets in the weeks after the wedding once a favorite image from the photographer is ready, so build that into your post-wedding to-do list alongside the thank-you notes themselves.

Everyday Keepsakes: School Photos, Family & Military

School and senior portraits: The original use case. School portrait packages almost always include wallets because teachers, coaches, grandparents, and friends all want one. If your child’s school package does not cover enough copies, or you would rather use a different photo than the official portrait, you can order wallet prints from any image you choose.

Grandparents and family: Older relatives often carry printed photos rather than scroll to find one. A wallet print of a grandchild or a new baby costs almost nothing to produce and gets carried for years. I have had customers order multiple sheets of a new grandbaby specifically to hand out at church, at the salon, to neighbors — everywhere a proud grandparent goes.

Military and first responder families: Families of service members and first responders often carry a wallet print for the same reason anyone does — to have that person close. A uniform portrait or a candid family photo in wallet size is a small thing that carries real weight.

A Nice Finishing Touch: Wallet Photo Frames

If a wallet print is going somewhere more permanent than a purse or a card — a desk, a nightstand, a keepsake shelf — a small wallet-size photo frame is worth the few extra dollars. Most photo and craft retailers carry inexpensive frames sized for a standard wallet print, and it is a nice way to turn a graduation or wedding keepsake into something that sits out and gets seen every day rather than getting tucked in a drawer. We do not sell frames ourselves, but it is a detail worth planning for if you know the print is a gift for someone’s desk rather than their wallet.

File Requirements for Wallet Prints

Small prints still need good files. Here is the practical information you need before you order:

Minimum resolution: Our wallet prints are 2.375″ × 3.375″. At 300 dpi, that means you need at least 713×1013 pixels in your image file — a bar that virtually any photo taken in the last decade on a smartphone or camera will clear easily. Where people run into trouble is with heavily cropped images. If you have cropped in tight to isolate a face or a detail, check the resulting pixel dimensions before ordering. A crop from a high-resolution original is usually fine; a crop from an already-small or compressed file can come out soft.

Aspect ratio: Our wallet prints have roughly a 2:3 aspect ratio. Most portrait-orientation photos from a smartphone or DSLR are shot at 3:4 or 4:5, which means a small amount of the image will be cropped when sized to fit a wallet. Take a moment in the ordering tool to review the crop position before submitting — the default centers the image, but that is not always where the most important part of your photo is.

JPEG format: JPEG is what our ordering system expects, and it is what virtually every camera and phone produces by default. If you are working with RAW files, export a JPEG before uploading. If you have a TIFF, a JPEG export from that file will work perfectly.

sRGB color space: Most cameras and phones shoot in sRGB by default, and that is exactly what you want for printing. If you have processed an image in a wide-gamut color space like Adobe RGB or ProPhoto RGB, convert to sRGB before exporting your print file. Wide-gamut files that are not converted often print with muted, flat color because the printer cannot fully interpret the expanded color data.

Paper Finish for Wallet Prints

Our standard Lustre paper is the right choice for wallet prints. The semi-matte surface resists fingerprints — important for prints that will be handled frequently, passed around, and carried in wallets and purses. Lustre also holds up well in card slots and billfolds where a glossy print might stick or scuff over time.
